BTHForward’s Founder Says Only Strategy Will Solve Multiple South Dallas Issues
Follow this blog . . .Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Recently, I had the opportunity to stand before the Mayor of Dallas and the Dallas City Council at an open mic session to address the pressing issues facing our community in Dallas District #4. During that session, I expressed my concerns and issued a call to action for a more effective and compassionate disciplinary approach to fighting crime, addressing mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, and fostering equitable economic development for our district.
I am proud to have opened the door to this conversation, but I also know that we have a long and challenging journey ahead of us. The Brentwood Trinity Heights Community Action Group has significant work to do to get the attention, resources, and support necessary to make a real impact. This is a challenge I am ready to face head-on, but I cannot do it alone.
As you watch the video of my open mic speech to the City Council, I invite you to reflect on the issues that are most important to you and our community. What are the areas where you see the greatest need for change? What problems are at the top of your priority list, and how do you think we can address them together?
I truly believe that with a united front, we can make a difference for Dallas District #4. I cherish and appreciate the support of everyone willing to stand with us in this effort, and I welcome any help from the community. Your thoughts, ideas, and support are crucial in our fight for a safer, healthier, and more prosperous community. Together, we can bring about the real change our district deserves.
An official copy of my open mic speech is provided below:
Honorable Council Members, City Leaders, and Community Members,
My name is Daymond Lavine, and I am here today as a representative of our community, deeply invested in the future of Dallas District #4. I'm a 20-year sysgems engineer, a multiple business owner, and now the founder of the Brentwood Trinity Heights Community Action Group. I work daily with a diverse individuals, striving to foster growth, opportunity, and creativity, and I see firsthand the impact of broken promises. I see when critical issues are ignored. And I'm quick to notice a "systematic failure."
In District #4, we a have a crisis that requires a comprehensive approach backe by real dollars for crime, mental illness, substance abuse, and homelessness, which are plaguing our community right now. These issues are interlinked, and without a strategic, alloacated budget, we're only treating symptoms, not root causes. We have a systematic failure in District #4.
we need thoughtful funding for effective crime prevention, community-based intervention, mental health support, expanded rehabilitation services, and a housing-first approach for the homeless that are in our area. Let's stop forgetting about District #4. Let's thinking about East Oak Cliff. These are people, not problems. Where is the budget to address their needs? Other districts have been prioritized, why not us? Again, we have a systematic failure
Equitable city development means uplifting all our residents, not leaving anyone behind. When will se see the thoughtful, intentional dollars supporting the prioritized, comprehensive set of needs for District #4 to address our systematic failure?
People only get ignored when other people choose to ignore them.
Thank you.
Brentwood and Trinity Heights, let’s do this!
Onward,
Daymond E. Lavine
Director and Founder
Brentwood Trinity Heights Community Action Group (BTHCAG)
